Araucaria Polo Team

In 1961 the sons of Don Manuel Bourdieu, owner of what was then called "Estancia San José" located no more than a league from the town Salvador María, began to cut down a paddock that gradually became the first polo field. They played there for three years, but there were many enthusiasts who came to participate such as their cousins from "El Carmen" who in turn brought their friends and family. Neighboring farms such as "La Alborada", "El Amparo" and "Los Cardales" amongst others, also contributed with their equipment, and the idea of founding a polo club was outlined.

In 1961 the sons of Don Manuel Bourdieu, owner of what was then called “Estancia San José” located no more than a league from the town Salvador María, began to cut down a paddock that gradually became the first polo field.

They played there for three years, but there were many enthusiasts who came to participate such as their cousins from “El Carmen” who in turn brought their friends and family. Neighboring farms such as “La Alborada”, “El Amparo” and “Los Cardales” amongst others, also contributed with their equipment, and the idea of founding a polo club was outlined.

It was in 1964 that this dream came true and ARAUCARIA POLO CLUB was founded, baptizing it with that name in honor of the oldest tree in Estancia San José. At that time, it was also registered in the Argentine Polo Association as an adherent club. During those years, different cups continued to be played, such as “Las Estancias” cup, considered the most important, in addition to “La Aracuaria” and “San José” cups, as well as other tournaments played in neighboring estancias.

In 1967, after the death of Don Manuel Bourdieu, it was decided to move the polo to Estancia “La Milagrosa” owned by Pancho Pepe Bourdieu, alternating it with Estancia “La Gama” owned by Dr. Raúl Laplacette.

Polo was played there until 1972, when a group of members and friends decided to undertake the enormous and ambitious project to set the Club´s permanent headquarters.

Nowadays, located next to “Laguna de Lobos”, the Club has 3 polo fields, football and tennis court, clubhouse, stables & paddocks, exercise track and a combination of experienced and young members who play all year round. Kids and beginners take part of the Polo School.

Tournaments are organized during spring and autumn seasons, the most significant ones being the Araucaria Open and Copa Ciudad de Lobos, in which the final stage is played in Palermo.
